December 'bike of the month'

Something different - A project bike.

Dave Stanmore tells the story:

David Stanmore's 1956 Racer
My little project bike is good for special interest and historic racing. It started life hear in the Monaro region as a srambler, on a farm mustering sheep. The owner decided that he would try his hand at grass or flat track racing. The bike is a mixture of parts from the mid 50s. It became a road racer in the late 50s and was given up in about 1964, I suppose because japanese bikes became (better ?) cheaper?

The bike was broken up and placed in boxes with some other parts until 1995 and a fellow in town found it. It was on a farm and just dirty bits. He placed it back in good repair and last year sold it to me. It has good after market piston, cam, new Amal, new Mag, dunstall style mega exhaust, rear sets, clip on bars and a early dunstall tank and fairing. I know it isnt origional and glamorous, but it hasnt been restored it was just put back together. I will polish it up and put the stickers on the tank.

Thanks for the interest.  David  (David emailed me this back in May 2004 - any chance of an update?  Rick Mann)
